Latinos Shine In Fashion Week

Twice a year, leaders in the fashion industry make their way to New York City for a week filled with runway shows, cocktail parties and press events. Last year, Mercedes Benz Fashion Week moved from the traditional and beloved Bryant Park to the more functional Lincoln Center.

Initially, the move was frowned upon by fashion’s most elite, but one could hardly sense any disapproval this season as editors, buyers and Internet bloggers eagerly made their way into the spacious venue.

Along with Mercedes Benz Fashion Week comes a trail of other notable and equally captivating industry events. Couture Fashion Week went above and beyond in its eighth year of production, featuring designers from Dubai, India, Russia, Lebanon, Morocco, Germany, UK, China and Brazil.

Taking place at the Waldorf-Astoria in midtown Manhattan on September 16-18, these select shows specifically focus on more avant-garde garments from a variety of acclaimed international designers. While each collection features a different designer, the entire event is more theatrical in nature than shows one would see at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. This season, many designers opted to incorporate live singers and dancers into their collections, giving life to their initial inspiration and sharing this with the audience through a creative medium.

Planete Chic New York Fashion Week was an equally notable event, taking place on September 15 at Midtown Loft Space. The event showcased three international designers who debuted very different but equally impressive collections. Former Creative Director at Aveda, Rudy Miles, led the make-up team while New York’s Scott J headed up the hair team for each readyto-wear collection.

Organizers included Fashion Magazine/TV, The Fashion Insider, Planet Fashion TV, Hudson Country TV, Fashion Daily Magazine and My Style. Executive Director of Planete Chic, Herve Racaud, produced the event in collaboration with Dr. Shireen Fernandez and Samuel Harris from Society Choice Magazine.
